I Need a Quick Diet for Photos

Posted By admin on August 26, 2010

Well, I backed myself into a corner because I scheduled a photo shoot with a photographer at the beginning of September.  I haven’t really ever had professional photos done, so I am nervous. I need a good, fast weight loss diet program – after all, the rumor is that the camera adds 10 lbs.  I really only need to lose about 6 lbs to be pretty happy with my weight…but I don’t think I can do it in under two weeks.

So now I have to figure out what to wear – which of course means shopping!  There is a whole list of things to do before the shoot:  tan, pedicure, manicure, eyebrows…I already bought new makeup:  eyeshadows in bold colors that I absolutely adore!  I spent about an hour at North Park Mall last weekend picking out my colors, trying to decide how dark I wanted the colors to be.  I got a lovely, royal sparkling blue eyeshadow that simply takes my breath away!

The shoot will be on the canal in Las Colinas – the great thing about the location is that there are really not that many people down there, but it gives the feeling of “old world” with its plaster walls and dark wood trim.  I’ve seen the work of this photographer and I have no doubt the photos will be lovely.

Jones ‘ing for some “Fringe”

Posted By admin on August 16, 2010

I am suffering from “Fringe” withdrawal. (Olivia is my “girl crush”.)

I think Fringe starts back up on September 23, and as far as I am concerned, it isn’t soon enough.  My brother-in-law found a pretty neat site about “Fringe”, but I’m not too keen on reading a bunch of blog posts…however, they have a timeline on there!  I haven’t really had a chance to look it all over, but I think I may have to study that Fringe timeline and go back to Season 1 and see if I can pick up on all the little details.  I’m not a detail person when it comes to TV, but this show is really cool and I would love to really get into it more deeply.  I’m just absolutely amazed how some people pick up on the smallest things, and it can slap me in the face and I won’t get it.  Anyway, I have a little time to catch up, so I am off to study!

Relaxing Summer of 2010

Posted By admin on August 13, 2010

Why is it that when August comes I feel like summer is quickly coming to an end?  If I had to say something about myself that is kind of strange, it is that my calendar still runs on a September to May school year and a June to August summer.  I haven’t been in school in years and I don’t have kids that adhere to this schedule…so why is it that i hang on to a schedule from yester-year?

I’m not really looking for an answer to that question because although it is stupid that my mind works that way, it is also one of the few things of youth I feel like I have held on to.

Summer this year was relaxing and easy.  I swam 3-4 times a week which has probably been the sweetest part of my summer this year.  Warm water on a roasting hot day to cleanse the dirt and sweat away has rejuvenated me – mind and spirit.  I’m gonna shoot for hitting that pool every day until the end of August, then I’ll be on the hunt for something to burn.

My Tax Nightmares Revisited

Posted By admin on July 15, 2010

Based on the fact that I have a degree in accounting, you would think I would be ideally suited to do taxes for people. Not so. That crap overwhelms me, and while I have had my fair share of taxes to do for myself, I certainly do not want to take on anybody else’s. H & R Block and those other tax professionals can certainly handle everything – I’ve heard good things about them. Family members have used them for years, and I even have relatives who took the classes offered by them so that they could go work for them.

You have to assume they know what’s going on – they’ve bee around a zillion years and are still going strong. Maybe I will try them next year.

My busy weekend

Posted By admin on May 14, 2010

Well, we now have 4 scheduled dog visits – the nice thing is that they are coming to us!  They all range in age from 5 years to 9 years!  I could be a Mom this weekend!  Of course, we have nothing for a dog yet.  I was going to start stocking up on dog food since I try to find good sales, but then I thought the dog we get might have a special diet need, so I decided to wait.

On another note, we have a “couples get together” this weekend.  We rarely have anything planned, so between the get-together and the dog visits our weekend is very full.  Actually, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed!

The next weekend a friend of ours is having a get-together to celebrate her daughter’s graduation from high school.

I almost feel important.

Legacy Boxer Rescue in Hurst, TX – we’re getting a dog!

Posted By admin on May 12, 2010

I’m in the process of trying to find the perfect dog.  We are checking out Boxers form Legacy Boxer Rescue in Hurst, TX.  We are for sure going to see 3 dogs this weekend, and possibly more.  I am SO excited about having a dog in the house – they are so sweet.  My husband wants a really big boxer – I want a Boxer.  ;-)    To me, I love all dogs, but my husband is waiting for that “feeling” you get when you know it’s the one.  I’ve had that feeling several times.  Anyway, very excited.  Maybe we will have our new dog this weekend.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Trying to get my tree trimming done

Posted By admin on May 11, 2010

I don’t know why, but it seems like i am constantly spending money getting my trees trimmed.  We bought our house in 2003, and the psychopath that owned the house before us had a tree fetish.  There were about 60 trees on our regular standard lot (80′ x 120′).  We have had all but 5 trees removed, so now i am getting ready to remove them.  Gotta get an estimate.  Our neighbor said they were pretty, but what she doesn’t know is that they have completely destroyed the driveway, damaged the foundation, and roots are growing into the pipes causing our water to backup.  Nasty.  So easily I will be spending a grand to get these trees removed, but at least this will be the last time.  Once we get them removed and get a new driveway I will be sure to get trees whose roots grow deep instead of on the surface.  I can sure think of better ways to spend money than this.

Making Money With My Hobby by Licensing My Films

Posted By admin on February 25, 2010

Seriously – I didn’t think I’d have the opportunity to sell any of my little film clips that I like to make on the weekends as sort of a relaxing hobby, but I found out that I can actually license my films using  mobile content licensing through mDistribute.  It’s a great way to make some extra cash while making sure that my films are protected through licensing.

I was always afraid of having someone steal my work…now I don’t have to worry about it.  Apparently, now that we can take the internet anywhere we go with our smart phones, laptops, etc, there are always companies looking for video content using animation, regular short movie clips, adult content, etc.  I just think it’s cool that “amateur me” has a place to go and make some money!

Vacation Rentals

Posted By admin on November 15, 2009

My first instinct when I travel is to book a hotel…however, I am considering different types of vacation rentals for my next trip, such as condos, timeshares, etc.  I have not done much traveling, but I think it is time to start considering more vacations.  We were considering going to New York for New Year’s Eve, so perhaps a New York vacation rental would be appropriate.

A friend of mine is heading to Colorado, and she found a great place in Keystone.  When I went skiing before I never even considered a Colorado vacation rental, but now I am open to all kinds of places to stay.  I am sure it will feel so much more like home than a hotel, and it would make a great family vacation!

I just know there is more to see in the world than I have seen, so I just need to get out there.

Trade In Your Purse for a Discount at Dillards

Posted By admin on October 24, 2009

I went to Dillards today to look at a purse I have been lusting after for quite some time. I asked if they had any specials going on right now and the woman in the purse department told me that on Tuesday (October 27) they will give you a discount on a purse if you bring in an old one! I am not sure what the complete discount scale is, but the purse I am looking at costs $178.00 and she said if I bring in an old purse I can get $40 off! (She said if you spend $200 you get $50 off.) So if you have been waiting for a purse to go on sale, you may not need to wait for much longer. She said it doesn’t matter what condition the purse is in.
