You know the saying:  when it rains it pours.  In a way that’s what happened to us as we began our journey to SXSW in Austin.  First, we rented an RV and the first group of us headed to Austin from Lewisville, TX.

The RV broke down in DeSoto.

Next, as group #1 was heading back to pick up group #2 in Lewisville…

The RV broke down in Hillsboro.

Moving ahead to group #2 coming back from Austin to Lewisville…we had to pull over somewhere outside of Hillsboro – in the parking lot of a XXX shop!  Luckily, this was not a major breakdown and so we were able to quickly get back on the road and get home.

SXSW was a blast…and a beating…  Here’s a picture of some of us!

Turns out he used to be with the Oak Ridge Boys. I was embarrassed that I didn’t know who he was, but grateful that I at least knew who the Oak Ridge Boys were. Thank goodness he wasn’t offended. He was actually a very humble man. I wish I had my picture taken with him, but I didn’t even think about it because we were having such a nice conversation.

I went to Chris’ website and posted a message that it was nice to meet him.  He was very kind and personally responded with the following message:

“Hello Jerri, thanks for stopping by. It was nice meeting you as well. It was my first SXSW experience, and I only wish I’d been able to check out the whole festival instead of the quick run-through like I had to do.  We were only there for a few hours to do the TV taping, and had to leave soon after to make a show in Lancaster, PA. Looking forward to the next time.

So to backup – originally, on Friday they left Lewisville, and by the time they reached DeSoto the RV had all kinds of blinking lights and beeping sounds.  Three hours later they were able to hit the road again.

Now heading back to bring the first group back and get the second group (including me) – somewhere outside of Hillsboro they decided to fill up the gas tank.  And lo and behold – the RV won’t start up again!!!  So no telling how long we will be waiting.  What a beating.

Anyway, in the meantime we have been making good use of our time by rolling up T-shirts to give away at the SXSW trade show – if we ever get there.

My co-workers and I are leaving tomorrow in an RV around 4 pm. We will be down there Wednesday thru Friday and coming back Friday night. The great thing is that the trade shows are from noon – 6 pm…so that means I should be able to sleep late!! Below is the picture of the 39′ RV we are taking. It is incredible. The last time I was on one of these was about 15 years ago heading to an Amway convention at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis.

I will actually be there the latter half of the festival and look forward to a great time.  If you are going to go, you better hurry because you will be hard pressed to find a SXSW hotel available.
